How your NAIA arrival terminal changes the trip to Makati or BGC

Choose a practical route from NAIA Terminals 1, 2 or 3 to Makati or BGC, with pickup, toll-road and terminal-change tradeoffs explained.

NAIA is not one compact building. Terminals 1 and 2 are west and southwest of the runways, while Terminal 3 is on the Newport City side. That makes Terminal 3 the more convenient starting point for Bonifacio Global City (BGC) on the map, but traffic can outweigh the geographic advantage.

The practical rule: take a car from the terminal where you land. Do not transfer to another NAIA terminal merely to begin the trip to Makati or BGC.

Choose by exact destination

“Makati” and “BGC” are not precise enough for route planning. Enter the hotel or building—not only the district—in the app or give its full name to the dispatcher.

Destination From Terminal 3 From Terminals 1 or 2
BGC High Street, Serendra or Market! Market! Usually the most direct of the three terminal starts; a driver can head east via the Sales Road–Lawton Avenue side of the airport Expect a cross-airport journey, with live navigation comparing the NAIA Expressway (NAIAX), Skyway, EDSA and C-5 approaches
McKinley Hill Terminal 3 has the clearest geographic advantage A direct car is still simpler than changing terminals
Ayala Center, Legazpi Village or Salcedo Village Surface roads or NAIAX/Skyway can make sense, depending on congestion NAIAX/Skyway is a useful option, but not automatically faster than surface roads
Rockwell Center or north Makati The longer trip within Makati reduces the importance of the arrival-terminal difference Let live navigation compare the Magallanes and EDSA approaches

These are route families, not turn-by-turn instructions. Airport exits, Magallanes, EDSA and roads entering BGC can back up independently.

NAIAX links the airport terminals with Skyway and the wider expressway network. The government’s project description says it was designed to ease transfers among Terminals 1, 2 and 3, though its 2016 projected travel-time figures are not an airport-to-hotel promise (PPP Center). The airport operator also identifies EDSA, C-5, NAIAX, SLEX and Skyway as the principal road approaches from eastern Metro Manila and Makati (New NAIA transport guide).

What the arrival terminal changes

Terminal 3: the useful tiebreaker for BGC

Terminal 3 is on the Newport City side of the airport, closer to the southern approaches to BGC and McKinley Hill. If two flights are otherwise comparable in schedule, fare and reliability, Terminal 3 is a reasonable tiebreaker for a BGC stay.

It is not a guarantee of a quick trip. Terminal 3 uses a centralized ride-hailing and taxi hub in its multi-level parking building. The facility opened for full operation in December 2024, replacing a simple curbside pickup for participating services (New NAIA). Follow current terminal signs and the instructions in the app rather than an old gate number.

For central Makati, Terminal 3 has no decisive route advantage. Live navigation may choose surface roads or NAIAX and Skyway.

Terminals 1 and 2: go directly to the city

Terminals 1 and 2 start on the opposite side of the runways from BGC. The journey is therefore less direct than from Terminal 3, but NAIAX provides access toward Skyway and other major roads.

Changing terminals first only adds a transfer, another unloading point and another pickup. It does not eliminate the road journey east to BGC.

For Ayala Center, Legazpi Village or Salcedo Village, Terminals 1 and 2 are not necessarily poor arrival points. Traffic conditions and the exact address matter more than a small difference on a static map.

Pick a transport method

Ride-hailing car

A ride-hailing car is straightforward when you have mobile data and a working payment method: the app records the destination, assigned vehicle and quoted fare.

Before booking:

  1. Clear immigration and collect every bag.
  2. Check that the app shows the correct terminal.
  3. Enter the exact property and street; some hotel brands have locations in both Makati and BGC.
  4. Follow the app and terminal signs to the current pickup area.
  5. Match the plate before boarding.
  6. Check the fare screen or ask the airport booking desk how any expressway toll will be handled.

Do not rely on a fixed bay number from an old guide. Pickup arrangements can change, and Terminal 3’s hub is separate from the arrivals curb.

Airport taxi

NAIA lists coupon taxis, yellow metered taxis and regular metered taxis among its official transport services. Airport personnel issue taxi users a dispatch slip, which passengers should keep rather than give to the driver; the slip carries contact details for complaints or assistance (New NAIA transport guide).

Use the staffed dispatch point, establish whether the trip is metered or coupon-priced, and give the complete destination. Confirm toll handling before departure.

Hotel transfer

A prearranged hotel car can reduce coordination after a late flight or when travelling with several bags, a group or a passenger who needs assistance. Give the hotel the flight number and terminal, then obtain a specific meeting point. Compare the quoted total with an app-based ride before committing.

Bus or rail

Do not plan on stepping from NAIA onto an operating airport train. Groundbreaking for the Metro Manila Subway’s Terminal 3 station took place only in September 2026 (TradeLink Media, reporting JICA project information).

UBE Express identifies itself as a point-to-point operator serving NAIA, but its public homepage does not show a current Makati or BGC timetable (UBE Express). Check the operator’s current booking channel before relying on it. A bus is useful only if its departure time works and its stop avoids an awkward second transfer with luggage.

Verify the terminal before travel

Terminal assignments can change. Use the airline’s current booking record or flight status on the day of travel. The airport operator also maintains a current airlines-by-terminal directory.

If the airline and booking information conflict, New NAIA publishes airport hotlines and separate trunk lines for Terminal 3 and Terminals 1, 2 and 4 on its contact page.

The decision in four lines

  • BGC or McKinley Hill: prefer Terminal 3 only when the flights are otherwise comparable; take a direct car from arrivals.
  • Ayala Center, Legazpi or Salcedo: choose the better flight, then let live navigation choose between toll roads and surface streets.
  • Terminal 1 or 2 to BGC: expect a cross-airport road trip, but do not transfer to Terminal 3 first.
  • A fixed appointment after landing: leave substantial flexibility rather than relying on a published drive time.

The useful preparation is simple: confirm the terminal, save the exact destination pin and follow the current pickup instructions.
